Importers, beware of tariff quotas

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will distribute, for 2021, the tariff quotas provided for by the Association Agreement concluded between Morocco and the United Kingdom.

We are going for the import quotas for agricultural products and processed agricultural products provided for by the Association Agreement concluded between Morocco and the United Kingdom for this year. As a reminder, this agreement entered into force on January 1, 2021, ensuring the continuity of relations between the two countries, following the formal departure of Great Britain from the European Union on December 31, 2020. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, in fact, distribute, for the year 2021, the tariff quotas provided for in this agreement. For this reason, it invites importers who wish to avail themselves of the quotas for the importation of the products in question to send their applications no later than the 20th of this month of January.

The granted shares must be imported no later than December 31, 2022, the ministry warns. However, it adds, for fresh apples, this deadline is set for May 31, 2022. This import concerns two lists of products originating in the United Kingdom. The first is made up of non-liberalized products subject to tariff quotas, excluding animals and products of animal origin. The second is made up of non-liberalized products subject to tariff quotas.

The ministry specifies, however, that cattle, beef and beef products will not be imported into Morocco from the United Kingdom, due to the sanitary status of this country for cattle (mad cow disease). It should be noted that the Association Agreement between Morocco and the United Kingdom, signed in London on October 26, 2019 and which entered into force a year ago, restores, within the framework of bilateral relations, all the effects that both countries mutually agreed upon. . within the framework of the Morocco-EU Association Agreement.
